Avoid The 12 reaches Halfway Mark with 93 DUI Arrests, No DUI Related Deaths

 The DUI arrest total stands at 93 near the halfway point of Avoid the 12, the police crackdown on impaired drivers in Santa Barbara County, a 24 percent rise over last year’s total at the same time in the campaign.

Impaired drivers have killed no one in the county since the effort began Dec. 14. It ends at midnight on New Year’s Day, said Deputy Win Smith of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, campaign coordinator.

No sobriety checkpoints are planned for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, but CHP officers will be on their maximum enforcement period, with nearly all available officers on the road.

The California Office of Traffic Safety funds Avoid the 12 through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. .
