AVOID The 12 Officers Arrest Man on Multiple Charges
LOMPOC- DECEMBER 21st, 2009
A driver was arrested for DUI, driving with a license suspended for the same crime, child endangerment and possession of cocaine at an Avoid the 12 sobriety checkpoint in Lompoc last night (Sunday, Dec. 20.)
“We originally pulled him out of line because he had the odor of alcohol and no license with him,” said Deputy Win Smith of the county Sheriff’s Dept., campaign coordinator. “We then found his license had been suspended for two previous DUI convictions. He was driving with cocaine in his pocket and his nine-year-old son in the back seat.”
Officers from the multi-jurisdictional crackdown stopped 661 cars, conducted 19 DUI investigations and made one other DUI arrest along with another for driving without a proper license. They towed three cars.
Next week will see a task force set for Santa Maria and yet another checkpoint in Lompoc on Tuesday night, according to Sgt. Ed Lardner. The 17-day winter holiday crackdown began last Friday and will end Jan. 3.
Avoid the 12 is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
