AVOID The 12 - Independence Day Weekend Enforcement Totals
Santa Barbara - JULY 7th, 2010
Law enforcement officers in Santa Barbara County brought in 61 DUI suspects over the four-day Avoid the 12 crackdown that ended Monday night.
The total is precisely the same as last year’s, but 35 percent above the 2008 total, said Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy Win Smith, campaign coordinator.?
No one died in a DUI crash, compared with one last year and none in 2008.
The Avoid the 12 crackdown gets its name from the dozen law enforcement agencies in the county.
Along with 40 other countywide crackdowns covering 98 percent of the state’s population, the local campaign is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
An 18-day campaign starting Aug. 20 and ending Sept. 6 is next on the enforcement calendar
