AVOID The 12 - 30 DUI Suspects In Handcuffs as of Midnight Saturday

Santa Barbara - MAY 30th, 2010

As of midnight last night (Saturday, May 29), police, sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers have handcuffed 30 DUI suspects during Avoid the 12’s Memorial Day weekend crackdown in Santa Barbara County.

This compares with 27 at the same time last year. DUI suspects have killed no one.

Deputy Win Smith of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept., Avoid the 12 coordinator, reported that officers on Highway 154 saturation patrols last night noticed that the car behind them was driving on the shoulder. They let it pass, then stopped it, arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI and found a methamphetamine pipe in the car.

The four-day effort ends at midnight Monday.

Funding for Avoid the 12 comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
