The Lompoc Police Department conducted a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday April 30, 2010 as part of Lompoc’s commitment to public safety. This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in Lompoc. The location of the checkpoint was in the 1000 block of east Ocean Avenue (SR 246) for west bound traffic. The goal of the DUI Checkpoint was removing impaired drivers and to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
The following charges/arrests were made during the checkpoint:
Driving without a drivers license 3
Driving on a suspended license 4 (1 persons license was suspended for a previous DUI)
Drivers evaluated for D.U.I 14
Drivers arrested for D.U.I. 2 (1 driver was a .10 BAC and the other was a .09 BAC)
Vehicles towed for a 30-day hold 5
Vehicles towed for a 1-day hold 3
Vehicles passing thru the checkpoint 575
Miscellaneous traffic stops 9
Warrant arrest 1 Warrant was for driving on a suspended license
Cell Phone Ticket 2 (Both drivers drove up to the officer talking on a cell)
Open container of alcohol 1
The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1!
