Northern Santa Barbara County is Focus of AVOID The 12 Cinco De Mayo DUI Patrols

Orcutt, Guadalupe - April 29th, 2010

Avoid the 12 will focus a DUI task force on the northern end of Santa Barbara County for Cinco de Mayo on Wednesday, May 5, said Sheriff’s Deputy Win Smith, campaign coordinator.

“This holiday is like Saint Patrick’s Day,” he commented. “A lot of people celebrate it with alcohol and then get behind the wheel. Everyone can have a good time and not worry about getting arrested if they just appoint a sober designated driver before they leave the house.”

Officers and deputies will concentrate their patrols on Orcutt, Guadalupe and the unincorporated area around Santa Maria. Overtime is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Traffic Safety Administration.

The campaign is named for the dozen law enforcement agencies in the county and will be out in force again for the Memorial Day weekend, Smith remarked.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1!
