AVOID The 12 Sets Santa Barbara - St. Patrick's Day DUI Checkpoint

 Avoid the 12, the county’s multi-jurisdictional anti-DUI campaign, will run a checkpoint in Santa Barbara for St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.

Deputy sheriffs and officers from several departments will staff the event, said Deputy Win Smith, campaign coordinator.

“We saw a lot of people with designated drivers and others taking taxis on St. Patrick’s Day last year, which is exactly the way to go. We hope for a repeat of this excellent planning this year,” he remarked.

Staffing for the checkpoint is supported by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Avoid the 12 will send out extra patrols over Cinco de Mayo, another holiday many people celebrate with drinking.
