PRESS RELEASE - 02/06/08 - 001

33 Traffic Stops, 10 Field Sobriety Tests

Apart from a delicatessen worker who decided to drink his alcohol-laden lunch while watching the Super Bowl at a Goleta bar, intoxicated football fans who took to the road
were hard to find, reports Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputy Win Smith, coordinator of Avoid the 12, the multi-agency DUI crackdown.

Avoid the 12 sent out extra DUI cars to look for people who had too much gridiron spirit on Sunday, Feb.  3, made 33 car stops and conducted 10 field sobriety tests, Smith said.
Avoid the 12's dozen police agencies will be out again over the Memorial Day weekend in search of DUI suspects.

The campaign is funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
