22 ARRESTED ON NEW YEAR'S EVE IN SANTA BARBARA COUNTY'S AVOID THE 12 CRACKDOWN
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY- JANUARY 2nd, 2009
Twenty-two people were taken into custody in Santa Barbara County on New Year’s Eve on suspicion of driving while impaired, according to officials with Avoid the 12.
The total covered two days because reporting periods are midnight to midnight, said Deputy Win Smith of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Dept., who coordinates the crackdown.
The campaign ends at midnight tomorrow. California Highway Patrol officers, sheriff’s deputies and city police officers have arrested 187 DUI suspects since it began Dec. 17.
The California Office of Traffic Safety funds the crackdown through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
